Stephen Ward Starts Ethics Web site

Stephen J. A. Ward, currently Professor and Director of the George S. Trumbull Center of the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication in Portland, and formerly director of the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia and the first James E. Burgess Professor of Journalism Ethics and founder of the Center for Journalism Ethics at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin--Madison has launched a Web site to explore the ethics of journalism in a global world.

The new Web site is called Media Morals: Supporting Responsible Journalism Around The World. Wendy Swanberg, a journalism historian and former news producer, edits the site. Media Morals will feature a systematic code of ethics for global media, based on principles developed by Ward over the years. It will also feature articles by prominent contributing writers.
Ward is a prolific and internationally recognized professor and author whose works in media have influenced the development of the field in both theory and practice.

Invite for Student & Faculty Submissions to the AEJMC Midwinter Conference - Due December 1, 2015

The AEJMC Midwinter Conference is to be held at at the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma on February 26 and February 27, 2016. Students and faculty are invited to submit abstracts of 600 to 800 words by 11:59 PM on Monday, December 1 to any one of the ten conference divisions. If approved, final papers (not exceeding 30 pages) will be due in at least two weeks prior to the conference, by February 12, 2016. Panel proposals are also welcome.

  • Specific divisions hosting programming at the conference include include Mass Communication & Society, Media Management and Economics, Participatory Journalism Interest Group (PJIG), and others
  • For the first time, abstracts can be uploaded online this year to https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/AEJMC2016/Default.aspx

Volunteers are also needed for three tasks:

  1. To review abstract submissions in December
  2. To serve as moderators on-site at OU for the conference in February
  3. To serve as discussants, reviewing the final papers and offering feedback to the authors and moderator.

25th Annual Meeting of the Association of Practical and Professional Ethics - February 18 - 21, 2016

The 25th Annual Meeting, open to both Association members and non-members, welcomes participants from various disciplines and professions for discussion of common concerns in practical and professional ethics. The meeting provides an opportunity to meet practitioners, professionals and scholars who share your interests. The Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) was founded in 1991 to encourage interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching of high quality in practical and professional ethics by educators and practitioners who appreciate the practical and theoretical aspects of their subjects. The Association facilitates communication and joint ventures among centers, schools, colleges, business and nonprofit organizations and individuals concerned with the interdisciplinary study and teaching of practical and professional ethics.

This year’s meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel in Reston, Virginia February 18 - 21, 2016.

The 5th International Conference on Communication, Media, Technology and Design - May 27 - 29, 2016

The International Conference on Communication, Media, Technology and Design is a three-day conference that focuses on the exchange of information on research, development, and applications are categorized under such main headings as Communication Technologies, Social Media, Visual Communication and Design, Integrated Marketing Communication, Communication Education, Film Studies, Communication Barriers, Health Communication, Media Management and Economics, Political Communication, Discourse Analysis, Communication in Education, and Communication and Media Studies in General.

Held in Zagreb, Croatia this year, this annual conference is coordinated by Associate Professor Dr. Agah Gumus, the Editor in Chief of Online Journal of Communication and Media Technologies.

The conference is seeking paper submissions to be included in the Conference Proceedings (Soft Copy) and published on the conference Web site. In addition, all papers will be published in one of the following journals.

  • Online Journal of Communication and Media Technologies - OJCMT,

  • Contemporary Educational Technology - CEDTECH,

  • Online Journal of Art and Design – OJAD.
