Don Campbell & Wendell Cochran (2003). Inside the Beltway: A Guide to Washington Reporting (2nd ed.). (Ames, IA: Iowa State Press). ix + 233 pp. ISBN 0-8138-1494-4. $ 36.99 (paper). Resources, index.

Although it would be surprising if any journalist operating in the nation's capital is without the first (1991) edition of this guide, it is worth mentioning that a second edition has been published. Although "the pack" of Washington reporters is huge, the authors wisely point out the value of this reference to public affairs reporting classes across the nation. While the "beats" described are particularly significant inside the Beltway-the political beat, the money beat, the legislature, departments and agencies, the executive-are to be found in analogue in every nation, state and city. While this book has little about ethics, per se, the discussions of angles and news pegs certainly provide stimuli for thought about ethics.
